Our Ontario resort accommodations are designed to keep our pricing fair and simple. We don't nickel and dime you and you won't find the included amenities like unlimited gas, bait and firewood in many other Lodge packages. There are no surprises at the end of your visit. 

Most of our original, hand-hewed log cabins date back nearly a century and we take great pride in maintaining and preserving their historic beauty while providing modern day conveniences. In recent years we have updated roofs, plumbing, electrical and exteriors as well as appointments such as appliances, bedding and more. It’s a labour of love that our guests truly appreciate and sets us apart as one of the premier lodges in Canada and has helped earn us Trip Advisor’s Certificate of Excellence Award in 2017. We don’t rent by the cabin. Rather, we place you and your guests in the most appropriate, available cabin that comfortably suits the size of your party. So, you are never crammed into a cabin that may be too small. This also gives us the flexibility to accommodate people with accessibility needs and to upgrade people to larger cabins as availability presents.  By all means, you may request a specific cabin at your time of booking and we always do our best to accommodate as best we can. However, as we host many people each season with different needs, we cannot promise specific cabins until time of arrival.

We include everything you need in a plan of your choosing! All plans include:

  • Fully equipped cottage with three or four piece baths
  • Charcoal grills, microwave, coffee makers, stove, and refrigerator
  • Fully screened porch
  • All bedding, linens, and towels
  • Dish, hand and bar soap
  • Pots, pans, dishes, glasses, cups, cutlery, utensils
  • Propane heat and 24 hr electricity
  • Outdoor fire places - free firewood
  • Top-of-the-line 16ft Starcraft fishing boat included for every 3 adult guests equipped with:

Kids young and old can find lots to do at Marten River Lodge, no matter what the weather may have in store.

pool tableHiking in Northern Ontario - Take a Hike! Yes there are as many hiking trails here as there are ATV trails. How far would you like to go today? The hiking on the trails is relatively easy and you are welcome to discover as much as you’re up for. There’s even a good chance you’ll come across some wildlife tracks!

The Beach - Our location provides calm waters, a sandy beach, kayaks and canoe, hydro cycle and water slide all free for everyone to enjoy. We also have an array of lounge chairs on the beach so you can sit back, relax and enjoy our sunny summers with your favorite beverage or that book you seem to never have time to read! 

The Grounds - Enjoy a game of basketball, horse shoes, or a camp fire - it’s all available for guests to enjoy at their leisure. 

Sunsets - There’s nothing quite like a Northern Ontario sunset with its ensemble of colours - each always different from the other. It’s quite peaceful to have a nice dinner followed by some quite time out on the deck watching the sun creep below the horizon. Our original, hand-hewn log dining room and fully equipped commercial kitchen creates an inviting historic ambience for your dining experience. One of the original buildings constructed in 1925, it stands majestically against our beautiful wilderness backdrop and though she leans a little, she has withstood almost a century of some of the harshest winters and all that Mother Nature can bestow.

We employ the services of a wonderful Swiss Chef who thrives on filling up hungry guests after a long day of fishing. You won’t go hungry here, nor will you be disappointed. With our standards of high quality ingredients, freshly made salads, and breads, savory meats and fresh vegetables, we strive to leave you wanting more.  Your meal will be deliciously satisfying after a day in the fresh air. After dinner, enjoy some homemade dessert with a cup of fresh hot coffee or tea. A perfect end to a perfect day!

Hans Peter Binz, Master Chef

Peter has been working at Marten River Lodge for nearly a decade and has prepared and served literally thousands of meals to our patrons. Highly regarded and appreciated by our guests, his reputation and culinary expertise stems from over 40 years of experience in kitchens in Europe and North America.chef peter

From the young age of 15 at his home in Switzerland, Peter began his training, education and apprenticeship, rising to notoriety among international celebrities. For eight years during the 1980s, Peter served as personal Chef to American country artist Johnny Cash when Johnny toured in Europe.   

dinner bellIn Canada, Peter worked in major 5-star hotel kitchens including Toronto’s Four Seasons and Royal York hotels, where conference events had him preparing meals for as many as 1000 people in a single night. He has also worked at various luxury resorts in Ontario and in the US. 

Peter owned and operated his own restaurant in Marten River during the 1990s, later selling the business and later again, buying it back and renovating it to become his home. Now that his wife Sharron has retired, they reside full time in Marten River. Over the winter months, Peter is often called upon to cater weddings and other events in our region. Peter is also a very capable handyman and occasionally helps others on renovation projects when he is not busy with his own.

Personable, good natured and talented, Peter welcomes guests into our historic dining room with fresh ingredients, hearty flavourful soups and meals fashioned by his own personal brand of cuisine. He often delights in speaking with guests and in entertaining them with his stories from his home country and international travels.

We know what it’s like to go to a resort and find your cabin - well, less than satisfactory. We understand that while a wilderness vacation should bring you closer to nature, it doesn’t mean you can’t be comfortable and your accommodations can’t be clean. 

At MRL we go to great lengths to ensure your stay is enjoyable, comfortable and worry-free. Before you arrive (and during your American Plan stay), your cabin and everything in it is meticulously cleaned from top to bottom and in every nook and cranny. Fresh sheets and bedding, towels and toiletries are provided; kitchen appliances and amenities, windows, floors, fixtures, furniture and surfaces are all cleaned to perfection. And if we did miss something, we’ll make it right immediately.

All our boats are cleaned, refuelled and inspected with each turn over so when you arrive its ready to go. We even include a towel with each boat for your convenience! Our lodge, dining room, common washrooms, grounds and fish cleaning station are also attended to regularly. We also offer a laundry service including wash, dry and fold for a nominal fee. 

We have invested in a significant infrastructure to provide safe, potable well water you can drink from your tap (tested regularly), an extensive over-built septic system, upgraded propane heating units and electrical system to provide optimum 24-hour service. Each year, we have also invested in replacing tiered mattresses, appliances, equipment and other amenities for the convenience and practical benefit of our guests. We are also in the process of replacing roofs with steel on a number of our buildings. After all, we want to preserve the 93-year heritage that is Marten River Lodge.

We want you to feel at home from the moment you arrive to the moment you say farewell. If there is anything we can do to make your stay more enjoyable, just ask. You’ll find all of us at MRL ready to help. 


Becky Rose (Robinson)

Guest Services Specialist

Becky joined MRL in 2017 and quickly proved that good things do come in small packages! We just had no idea how versatile she can be and thus Guest Services Specialist seems to best describe her role. Becky Rose

With her primary housekeeping duties, Becky upholds our meticulous standards for cleanliness which guests have come to appreciate. She attends to every detail in our cabins, lodge and dining room and ensures each guest's comfort during their stay. When she’s not attending to cabins, Becky can be found doing a host of other duties including laundry, cleaning and fueling boats, cutting the lawn and other yard work.Becky with husband and guide Sam

And if that’s not enough to keep her busy, Becky is also a talented and very enthusiastic Chef, and when called upon to relieve Peter in the kitchen, guests are in for a special treat with her personal style of cuisine. Schooled and certified in the culinary arts with experience working in some of Kingston’s favourite tourism and dining establishments, Becky delights in preparing and presenting her meals with care. Chef Peter has said he has never trusted anyone in the kitchen as he does Becky in all his years here, and our guests have echoed their complements repeatedly.

Becky and Sam Rose (MRL guide) were married last fall and together they make a dynamic duo, sharing their passion for fishing and hunting and living life large in the outdoors. Always with a smile, an infectious bubbly personality and eagerness to ensure our guests enjoy their time and experience at MRL, Becky is an invaluable and trusted member of the MRL team and we are thankful to have her with us. You will be too!
